GMAT Registration 2026: Test Center, Online, Scheduling and Retake Rules

The official GMAT registration and scheduling process runs through mba.com. Create or sign in to your account, select the GMAT registration option, and choose either a test-center appointment or the online exam where available. Avoid third-party sites that claim they can create a special GMAT booking outside the official process.

Test-center registration

For a test-center appointment, GMAC's scheduling flow allows you to search for test centers, select up to three preferred locations, and then search for the next available appointment or a specific date. You can usually schedule up to six months in advance.

Online registration

For online testing, use the online registration path in your mba.com account. Review the online policies, confirm your personal information, select an appointment, and complete payment. Before booking, run the required system check and make sure your computer, webcam, microphone, internet connection and private room meet the current rules.

Test center versus online

GMAC says the content, scoring and skills measured are the same in both formats. Test centers offer a controlled environment with managed equipment. Online testing can offer broader scheduling flexibility, but your technology and workspace become part of the risk. Choose the delivery method that makes your test-day conditions most reliable.

Identity details matter

Your account information must match the identification requirements that apply to your appointment. Check the current GMAT ID policy before test day, especially if your legal name, passport or other accepted identification has changed. A preventable name mismatch can jeopardize an appointment.

How often can you take the GMAT?

Under the current GMAT policy, all online and test-center attempts count toward a maximum of five attempts in a rolling 12-month period. You must wait at least 16 days between attempts. Current GMAC guidance says there is no lifetime attempt limit.

Schedule with score timing in mind

Official scores typically arrive within three to five days but can take up to 20 days. Build that reporting window into your application plan. If you want the option of a retake, leave enough time for the 16-day wait plus additional preparation and another score-reporting window.
