If you have not registered yet

Register through your College Board account and choose an available testing location. Do not treat the late deadline as extra planning time: seats can fill before a deadline. College Board notes that late registration or changes may carry additional fees. If your preferred center is unavailable, follow the current options shown in your account; do not rely on unofficial claims that a seat will open later.

If you already registered

Your job shifts from registration to readiness. College Board instructs registered students to open Bluebook during the week before test day, complete exam setup, and obtain the admission ticket. Make sure the device you will use is ready under current College Board rules and follow the official test-day checklist for identification, permitted items, arrival instructions, and any approved accommodations.

Important: September scores arrive after October registration deadlines

The September 12 SAT student score-release date is September 25. That comes after both the September 18 regular deadline and September 22 late deadline for the October test. If you are deciding whether to take October based on your September result, the calendar creates a real planning conflict. You may need to decide whether to reserve an October seat before seeing the September score.

Use the September SAT score-release guide to understand the score timeline and post-score decisions.

What to do during the final 10 days

  • Complete Bluebook exam setup. Do not leave the admission-ticket step to test morning.
  • Take one official full-length practice test if useful. Use it to rehearse the digital interface and pacing, not to chase a last-minute score prediction.
  • Review your two weakest domains. Targeted question-bank practice is more useful than random high-volume drilling.
  • Check the official test-day page again. Rules can change, and College Board is the controlling source.
  • Protect sleep and travel time. A late-night cram session cannot replace being ready to test at the required local arrival time.

October SAT score release

College Board lists October 16, 2026 as the student score-release date and October 19 for educators. The SAT total score runs from 400 to 1600, with Reading and Writing and Math each reported from 200 to 800. Use the score report to identify section-level strengths and weaknesses instead of judging the result only by a single total.
