What this calculator does

Compare an entered CLEP scaled score with a target and calculate the exact score gap. It performs only the arithmetic described on this page. Enter values from the same course, practice set, score report, or scoring scale so the result remains meaningful.

Formula and worked method

The calculator subtracts the entered score from the entered target. A zero or negative gap means the target has been met. The result is recalculated immediately after you submit the form, and the displayed precision does not create extra certainty beyond the values entered.

Limits, privacy, and official decisions

The target must come from the applicable school, program, state, jurisdiction, or official score policy. ACE commonly recommends 50, but each college sets its own credit policy and raw-to-scale conversion varies by form. Review the primary source for current scoring rules and official results.
