New and pilot subjects in the 2027 schedule
The 2027 calendar includes AP Business with Personal Finance and AP Cybersecurity, both appearing in the regular schedule. Networking appears for 2026-27 pilot schools only. Students should verify whether their school actually offers these courses and whether they are part of the relevant program before assuming the national schedule creates a local testing option.
Portfolio and performance-task deadlines
Not every AP requirement happens during the two May exam weeks. College Board lists April 30, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. ET as the submission deadline for Computer Science Principles Create performance task components, Seminar and Research performance tasks, and the new AP World Languages and Cultures Personalized Project Reference requirement. AP Art and Design portfolios are due May 7 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
How to use the schedule to build a study plan
Start with your last exam and work backward, but do not give every subject equal weekly time. Rank courses by three factors: exam date, current weakness, and amount of unfinished content. A subject tested on May 3 with major gaps should receive more early-April attention than a strong subject tested May 14.
Six to eight weeks before your first exam
Finish major content review and identify weak units. Use course-specific official frameworks and released or authorized practice where available. Do not spend this phase taking full-length tests every day; first repair the gaps that full practice would repeatedly expose.
Three to five weeks before
Shift toward mixed-unit work, free-response practice where applicable, and timed sets. Start practicing the task formats you will actually see. Track recurring mistakes rather than simply counting how many questions you complete.
Final two weeks
Use full or near-full exam rehearsals selectively, review scoring expectations, and stabilize pacing. If you have multiple AP Exams within a few days, alternate subjects and protect sleep. The goal is not to relearn an entire course in the final weekend.
What if two exams overlap?
Same-session conflicts can be handled through College Board's late-testing system. The 2027 late-testing administration runs May 17-21. Tell your AP coordinator as soon as you identify a conflict so the school can order the correct late test. Do not assume you can simply arrive at another regular session.
What if you are taking many AP Exams?
Create one calendar showing all regular exam dates, school deadlines, portfolio submissions, and major non-AP commitments. Then mark the two hardest subjects. Give those subjects the first protected study blocks each week. Lighter review can rotate among stronger subjects. This prevents a seven-exam student from treating every course as equally urgent every day.
Registration comes before preparation logistics
Being academically ready does not help if the school never ordered the exam. For 2026-27, October 2 is the preferred ordering deadline and November 13 at 11:59 p.m. ET is the final deadline for full-year, first-semester, and exam-only orders. Spring-course orders and many fall-order changes are due March 12, 2027. Verify your status with the AP coordinator.
Start-time reminder
Most schools in the lower 48 states, Hawaii, and Washington, D.C. continue to use 8 a.m. local time for Session 1 and 12 p.m. local time for Session 2 in 2027, but College Board changed timing for some other locations. Students should follow the exact reporting time provided by their coordinator.
