These TOEFL iBT notes organize preparation around the skills that deserve repeated retrieval and practice. They supplement, rather than replace, the current official test outline. The TOEFL iBT format updated on January 21, 2026. Reading and Listening use adaptive testing, the test takes about two hours, and current score reports use a 1–6 scale in half-point increments.

Use active recall

Close the notes and reconstruct the concept or reasoning method from memory. Then solve a fresh example without looking at the prior solution. Retrieval exposes weak knowledge more effectively than rereading. Mix older skills into later sessions so that a correct response requires you to recognize which method applies rather than following a predictable chapter order.

Keep a useful error log

For every meaningful miss, record four items: the tested skill, the reason your first approach failed, the corrected rule or reasoning step, and a trigger that should remind you to use it next time. Separate content gaps from misreads, pacing problems, and careless execution. If you answer correctly for the wrong reason, log the item anyway.

Final review checklist

Confirm that your practice matches the current official exam format, then prioritize weaknesses that still repeat. Practice switching among topics, make pacing decisions before test day, and stop relying on obsolete resources when the official organization has changed a specification. The goal of these notes is to support durable recall and disciplined review, not memorization of secure or recalled exam content.
