Your diagnostic should decide whether this timeline is realistic. If major content areas are unfamiliar, extend the plan rather than compressing months of learning into a panic schedule.

AAMC's current study-plan guidance emphasizes using the content outline, a baseline assessment, active learning, practice questions and detailed review of mistakes. The core idea is simple: do not spend eight weeks passively reading notes or repeatedly taking full-length exams. Each week should turn evidence from practice into specific learning actions.
Before Week 1: set the baseline
Use an AAMC official sample or practice resource under realistic conditions. Record more than a total score. For every section, classify misses by content gap, reasoning error, passage interpretation, timing, careless execution or low-confidence guessing. Use the Content and Skills Breakdown in official prep tools when available. Rank your weakest domains rather than treating all topics equally.
Week 1: map the exam and repair the largest gaps
Review the official MCAT content outline and connect your diagnostic misses to the tested foundational concepts and skills. Spend most content-review time on low-confidence areas. Use active recall: close the book, explain the concept, draw the process, predict the relationship, or solve a short problem without notes. Finish each study block with a small set of relevant questions.
Week 2: build section-specific routines
Continue content repair while establishing repeatable methods for each section. In science sections, practice translating passages into variables, relationships and experimental logic. In CARS, focus on passage structure, author's purpose and evidence rather than outside knowledge. For behavioral sciences, connect terms to scenarios instead of memorizing isolated definitions.
Week 3: increase mixed practice
Shift from single-topic drills to mixed sets. The goal is to retrieve the right concept without being told which chapter applies. Review every incorrect or uncertain answer. Write why the correct option is supported and why your selected option failed. A correct guess belongs in the review log because it can hide unstable reasoning.
Week 4: full-length checkpoint
Take a scored full-length under test-day timing conditions if your preparation has progressed enough. The next day should not be another heavy test. Review the exam deeply. Compare the new section pattern with your baseline and identify which weaknesses improved, which stayed flat and which emerged under fatigue.

Week 5: precision repair

Week 6: cumulative practice and a second full-length
Continue mixed question sets across previously studied material so earlier topics are not forgotten. AAMC's study cycle recommends revisiting prior material and practicing application after review. Take another full-length when you have done meaningful corrective work since the previous one. Comparing tests without changing behavior between them is not useful.
Week 7: stabilize performance
Reduce broad content expansion. Focus on recurring mistakes, timing, high-frequency weak areas and test-day routines. Practice starting each section calmly, using breaks intentionally and recovering after a hard passage. Your goal is not to feel that you know everything; it is to make your performance repeatable.
Week 8: final rehearsal and taper
Complete the final full-length early enough to review it without exhausting yourself. In the last several days, use shorter mixed sets, active recall and your personal error log. Confirm test-center logistics and identification rules. Protect sleep and normal meals. Do not respond to anxiety by adding an extreme new study schedule in the final 48 hours.
A weekly time split that adapts to evidence
Do not use the same number of hours for every subject just because a template says so. A student with strong chemistry and weak CARS should allocate differently from a student with the opposite profile. Use your error log to distribute time. A reasonable weekly structure includes content repair, passage/question practice, cumulative review and one recovery block for missed work.
