Remote LSAT testing is now the exception, not the default

The distance rule is about available capacity

The domestic distance exception is not simply based on living far from the nearest building that ever hosts the LSAT. LSAC refers to distance from a test center with available capacity. That means your situation depends on the actual administration and available scheduling options. Do not assume eligibility from a map alone.

How to apply

LSAC says registered test takers can apply for a remote-testing exception and submit documentation through JD Services. Follow the current instructions shown for your administration. If your basis is a disability-related accommodation, use LSAC's accommodation process and deadlines rather than treating the remote request as a substitute.

What remote testing still requires

An approved remote exception does not mean an unproctored exam. Remote multiple-choice LSAT sessions use real-time human proctoring and heightened security measures. You must also meet the equipment, room and technical requirements LSAC publishes for remote testing.

Remote scheduling deadlines are separate

Each administration has its own scheduling close. For example, LSAC lists October 4, 2026 as the remote scheduling close for the October LSAT, while test-center scheduling closes September 30.
