HiSET: 8-Week Study Plan

Start with a diagnostic

This eight-week HiSET plan follows diagnose, learn, practice, review, and retest. Begin with current official material and record each miss by topic and cause. The HiSET uses five separately timed subtests. Current official timing is 90 minutes Mathematics, 80 Science, 70 Social Studies, 65 Reading in English, and 120 Writing.

Weeks 1–2: rebuild foundations

Use the diagnostic to rank weaknesses instead of studying every topic equally. Start with Mathematics and Science. Work untimed until the method is reliable, then add short timed sets. For every error, write the tested skill, what caused the miss, and the rule or reasoning step that would prevent the same mistake next time.

Weeks 3–5: targeted cycles

Rotate through Social Studies, Language Arts Reading and Writing while continuing spaced review of earlier topics. Each cycle should include a concept check, several focused questions, immediate explanation review, and a later retest without notes. Correct answers reached by guessing remain in the review queue because dependable reasoning matters more than a temporary score.

Weeks 6–7: mixed timed work

Shift from isolated drills to mixed sets. Use pacing checkpoints, avoid spending unlimited time on one item, and review both correct and incorrect responses. Compare your reasoning with the expected method and reattempt weak skills after a delay so improvement reflects learning rather than short-term memory.

Week 8: readiness

Complete realistic timed practice using the current official structure. Use the final days to repair repeated weaknesses, confirm current testing rules and logistics, and protect sleep. Do not chase large volumes of new material at the end; stable pacing, accurate review, and current official guidance are more useful than last-minute cramming.
