ACT: Focused Review Notes

What these notes cover

These ACT notes are a compact review framework for the skills that should stay visible throughout preparation. They are not a replacement for the current official test outline. The current enhanced ACT centers the core composite on English, Math, and Reading; Science and Writing are optional. Practice should match the version and options the student actually registers for.

High-yield review map

• English editing and rhetorical decisions: define the task, identify the evidence or rule needed, solve deliberately, and verify why competing choices fail.
• mathematical reasoning from foundational algebra through advanced high-school topics: define the task, identify the evidence or rule needed, solve deliberately, and verify why competing choices fail.
• reading comprehension and evidence: define the task, identify the evidence or rule needed, solve deliberately, and verify why competing choices fail.
• optional science data interpretation when the student plans to take Science: define the task, identify the evidence or rule needed, solve deliberately, and verify why competing choices fail.

Build an error log that teaches you something

For every meaningful miss, write four short entries: the tested skill, the exact reasoning error, the correct rule or method, and a future trigger that should remind you to use it. Separate knowledge gaps from misreads and timing mistakes. A page of specific corrections is more useful than a long list of raw scores because it tells you what to change.

Active-recall routine

Close the notes and reconstruct the rule, relationship, or reasoning step from memory. Then solve a fresh example. Mix older material into later sessions so that success requires retrieval rather than recognition. When an answer is correct for the wrong reason, count it as a review item; lucky guesses should not disappear from the error log.

Final review checklist

Use current official materials to confirm the test structure and policies, then prioritize weak areas that still produce repeated errors. Practice transitions between topics, make pacing decisions before test day, and stop using a resource if it trains a format or rule that no longer matches the current exam. These notes are designed to support disciplined review, not memorization of protected or recalled test questions.
