How to build a useful diagnostic

Start with authorized ETS material under realistic timing. Do not begin by memorizing a long formula list. Your first goal is to identify which type of failure costs the most points: missing content, weak theorem recall, algebraic execution, interpretation, proof-style reasoning translated into multiple choice, or pacing.

  1. Tag every missed problem by domain. Use calculus, algebra or additional topics first, then a narrower subtopic.

If more time is available, stretch the same sequence and insert spaced mixed review. If less time is available, prioritize the largest repeated error sources instead of trying to cover every textbook chapter.

Scoring and score-use basics

ETS reports a total GRE Subject Test score on a 200–990 scale in 10-point increments, although the practical score range for an individual subject can be narrower. Physics and Psychology also report percent-correct subscores for tests taken beginning in September 2023. ETS states that Subject Test scores are reportable for five years after the individual test date.
